Brandy Marty Marquez began her two-decade career as a legislative intern in the Texas House of Representatives. She rose steadily through the ranks before Governor Rick Perry named her Chief of Staff and later Commissioner of the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC).
Upon entering the private sector, Capitol Inside recognized Brandy in 2019 as a top Texas Lobby Rising Star in its biannual Texas Lobby Power Rankings. In 2021, the publication named her a Top 25 Hired Gun Lobbyist. In 2023, Brandy was recognized as as a Top 15 Hired Gun Lobbyist.
Brandy currently advises a broad portfolio of clients, ranging from Fortune 100 companies to not-for-profit organizations. She successfully lobbied on a wide range of issues, including natural resource management, Medicaid, banking regulations, occupational licensing modernization, tax policy, telecom, transportation, and utility regulation.
Brandy brings to her clients a results-based approach from years of public service. As Chief of Staff, Marquez shepherded Governor Perry's priorities, including landmark public education, healthcare, transportation, and water financing legislation. Marquez also served as Perry's Director of Budget and Policy and Deputy Chief of Staff for the Office of the Governor and as Policy Director for his successful 2010 gubernatorial campaign. As one of Perry's top lieutenants, Marquez gained expertise on the Texas budget, public education, economic development, infrastructure, and the operations of executive agencies. In August 2013, Perry appointed Marquez PUC commissioner. Governor Greg Abbott reappointed Marquez to the PUC in 2015, and she continued in that role until April 2018.
Marquez is a graduate of the University of Texas and St. Mary's School of Law.
